Pushpa kept her daughter close through a month in hospital, and brought her back a year later at 8.6 kilograms

Pushpa's* daughter was born on 26 April 2025 at Pali District Hospital, weighing 1,600 grams. Small enough to need close care from her first day, she was enrolled in Ansh's Kangaroo Mother Care programme straight away.

A month in hospital

Pushpa spent hours of every day with her daughter held against her chest, which is what keeps a baby this small warm, stable and feeding. By the time they went home on 28 May 2025, she knew how to feed her daughter, what danger signs to watch for and when to bring her back.

Keeping it going at home

The hospital month is only the start. Pushpa carried on with skin-to-skin care and breastfeeding at home. At a routine check-up on 28 May 2026, a year after discharge, her daughter weighed 8.6 kilograms and had become the liveliest person in the household.

Sometimes it comes down to a mother keeping her baby close, long after she has left the hospital.
