About Ansh
Around 500,000 newborns die in India every year. Most are low birthweight or premature babies. Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) — skin-to-skin contact, close monitoring, exclusive breastfeeding — reduces neonatal mortality by 33–50% and carries the WHO’s strongest possible recommendation. The evidence is settled. The problem is getting it to actually happen inside government systems and communities, at scale, consistently.
Ansh is dedicated to saving newborn lives by building healthcare capacity to implement Kangaroo Care in government systems in India. Our mission is to create a scalable and cost-effective model that implements and promotes Kangaroo Mother Care and other impact focused newborn care best practices.
Founded in 2023, we now have more than 170 on-ground full-time staff, 3 implementation partners, and 10 core team members delivering our programs in 15 District Hospitals. We estimate a neonatal mortality reduction of 33-50% as a result of Ansh programs, and GiveWell estimates our work saves one life per $2500. We have received a GiveWell grant for 2025-26 to scale our life-saving work to 15 District Hospitals across Rajasthan.
The role
Ansh relies on two systems that support our newborn health program delivery: an app, built in FlutterFlow, that our field teams use to support the delivery of KMC across 15 district hospitals today, and dashboards, built in Streamlit, that turn the data generated through the app into information our team and partners can use to make decisions. As we scale from one state to several, we need someone who can take direct, hands-on ownership of maintaining and developing both, and who can scope requirements, implement solutions, and exercise sound technical judgement independently.
This is a delivery-focused role: you will carry out the majority of the day-to-day design, development, and operational work directly. You will be Ansh's primary technical owner of our dashboards and data infrastructure, working closely with the M&E and program teams to understand their requirements, with our app developer to ensure data flows cleanly from the app into your dashboards, and with the C-suite to ensure our technology keeps pace with our growth. Our tech team is small, so this role calls for a startup mentality — the initiative to step outside a predefined job description when something needs doing, rather than waiting to be asked.
Key Responsibilities
Own and maintain our data dashboards
-
Take end-to-end ownership of Ansh's data dashboards, maintaining them on an ongoing basis and ensuring they remain accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose as our programs and data needs evolve.
-
Own and maintain the BigQuery backend powering our dashboards, including schema design, query performance, and data quality.
-
Write and optimize SQL queries to answer ad hoc and recurring questions from the program and leadership team.
-
Scope and lead the implementation of new dashboard features, working with the M&E and program teams to translate their requirements into working tools.
-
Identify and implement improvements to dashboard efficiency, performance, and reliability as our data volumes grow.
-
Integrate new data sources as our programs and data needs expand. Lead the merging of data sources from the Ansh app program data and M&E CommCare data.
-
Audit existing dashboards and develop new analyses to answer emerging questions from the program and leadership team.
-
Identify and resolve data quality issues before they reach leadership or government partners.
-
Own the dashboard's Trello board to manage and delegate tasks.
Follow good technical practice
-
Apply sound engineering practices to keep our dashboards and app reliable and maintainable as they scale, rather than optimising only for short-term delivery.
-
Document your work clearly, so that systems and decisions are understood across the organisation rather than held only by you.
-
Recommend new tools or approaches that would help Ansh's team deliver more effectively.
Work closely with the C-suite and program team
-
Partner with M&E and program leads to prioritise what gets built next, based on what will most improve data quality, decision-making, or field operations.
-
Bring a technical perspective into planning conversations, so Ansh's data and tooling keep pace with its growth ambitions.
Candidate profile
Essential
-
Around 5+ years of relevant experience, including hands-on work developing dashboards or data tools (Streamlit or similar Python-based frameworks) and SQL/BigQuery or a comparable cloud data warehouse.
-
Strong Python skills, comfortable with data wrangling and turning application-generated data into reliable, decision-ready dashboards and analyses.
-
Comfortable using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. Claude Code) as part of a modern development workflow, with the discipline to keep the resulting code maintainable rather than simply expedient.
-
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate requirements from non-technical colleagues into technical specifications, and to explain technical trade-offs back to them clearly.
-
High ownership and agency: comfortable being the primary technical owner of these systems in a rapidly growing organisation, and able to resolve blockers independently.
-
Comfortable operating with a startup mentality on a small team — taking initiative and stepping outside a predefined scope of responsibilities when the situation calls for it.
-
Fluent in English; based in India and comfortable working remotely with a distributed, mission-driven team.
-
Deep alignment with Ansh's mission, and a serious, evidence-based commitment to impact.
Strongly preferred / nice to have
-
Direct experience with GCP/Firebase, including Firestore and BigQuery.
-
Experience integrating data from custom-built mobile or field applications into analytics tools.
-
Familiarity with data privacy and security considerations for health data.
-
Familiarity with git or similar version control systems for managing code changes.
-
Comfortable working within agile or task-based workflows (e.g. Trello or similar).
-
Fluency in Hindi.
We care more about how fast you can grow into this role than about where you start today. If you meet most of these and the mission speaks to you, please apply.
Reasons to apply
-
You will join a high impact organisation which is scaling rapidly.
-
You’ll have real ownership over things that matter.
-
A high-leverage, high-autonomy position in a young, ambitious, evidence-driven organisation with room for outsized personal impact as we scale.
-
You'll learn a lot about what it takes to run a health program inside the Indian public system.
-
The core team is small, takes the mission seriously, and is honest about what's going well and what isn't.
-
Your work will save lives. Reliable data and tools are what let Ansh's program team catch problems early and keep care on track.
-
Close work with a C-suite and a team that takes both the impact and its people seriously.
-
Competitive nonprofit compensation, health insurance, and flexibility in how you work.
